Privacy Policy

Effective: October 2026. This is the plain-English version of what FretCompare (fretcompare.com) collects, why, and what you can do about it. Questions: [email protected].

The short version

We collect your email address only if you sign up for our email course or newsletter.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. Ever.
Affiliate links (currently Amazon) and a few third-party services can set cookies, described below.
Our free tools (tuner, metronome, practice timer) run in your browser. Nothing from them is sent to us.

Email signups (Kit)

Our email forms are run by Kit (formerly ConvertKit). When you sign up, Kit stores your email address, the form you used, and basic delivery data (for example whether an email was opened or a link clicked). We use this only to send what you signed up for, such as the free 7-day First Chords course and occasional guitar-learning emails. Signup is double opt-in: nothing is sent until you confirm. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing [email protected]. Kit's own privacy policy applies to how it processes data on our behalf.

Affiliate links and cookies

FretCompare is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. When you click an Amazon link on our site, Amazon may set cookies in your browser so it can credit us with a commission if you buy. Amazon does not tell us who you are or what you bought personally; we only see aggregated commission reports. If we join other affiliate programs (for example lesson platforms), their links may set similar tracking cookies, and those links will be disclosed on the page. Right now, lesson-platform links go to the official sites with no affiliate ID.

We use Pinterest's site verification tag, and we may use the Pinterest tag to understand visits that come from Pinterest. If used, Pinterest can set cookies and receive information such as the page you visited, under Pinterest's privacy policy.

Analytics and hosting (Cloudflare)

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is designed to measure traffic without cookies and without building personal profiles: it reports aggregate data such as pages viewed, referring sites, browser type and country. As our host, Cloudflare also processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Our free tools

The guitar tuner uses your microphone only after you allow it, and the audio is processed in your browser. It is never recorded or uploaded. The practice timer saves your practice log only in your own browser (localStorage). Quiz and calculator answers are not sent to us.

Children

FretCompare is written for adults, including parents choosing lessons for their kids. We do not knowingly collect email addresses from children under 13. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we will delete it.

Your choices

Unsubscribe from any email with one click.
Ask us to access, correct or delete your email data: [email protected].
Block or clear cookies in your browser settings; the site still works without them.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
